I have been a midwife since 1986. Prior to commencing an academic career I practised in a variety of settings including two years in a large teaching hospital in Nepal and in the UK in a small private hospital specialising in ‘natural’ childbirth, a small midwife-led unit and finally as a community midwife in Dundee. Since 1997 I have worked as a Lecturer in Midwifery at the University of Dundee. In addition to my teaching and administration responsibilities, my research activities have increased over the past few years and have included the study of pelvic floor exercises, infant feeding plans and woman-centred care.
