Biography

Professor Ian Barron, Chair in Psycho-trauma Studies, is Head of Research Post Graduate in the School of Education and Social Work, and discipline lead for doctoral humanitarian scholarships across the University of Dundee. He is co-director of (i) the International Centre for Child Trauma Prevention and Recovery (ICCTPR); (ii) the Trauma Response Network (TRN) established to deliver Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) for victims of mass trauma events, such as terrorist attack, in the UK and Ireland; and (iii) the Transformative Change: Education and Life Transitions (TCELT) research centre. Professor Barron, is principle investigator for trauma recovery projects running in the Middle East, Brazil, Malta, and in Secure Care facilities in Scotland. Professor Barron's partners include EMDR Europe; the Children and War Foundation, Bergen; Dr Ricky Greenwald (Child Trauma Institute) and the Scottish Government. Dr Barron's trauma recovery projects have been captured in a Research Excellence Framework impact case study, which rated the impact and reach of his research as outstanding and world leading. Dr Barron is widely published in high impact peer review journals.
