I qualified from Edinburgh University and pursued a career in Paedatrics & Child Health with positions in Scotland and New Zealand.  More recently, I have also worked in a research capacity within the Vaccine Trials Group, Perth, Western Australia. I completed my postgraduate paediatric training in Tayside in 2012 and have worked as a consultant in paediatrics since then.  I have a clinical interest in paediatric endocrinology and diabetes and am an active member of the national clinical networks for each sub-specialty.  I am also an NRS career research fellow, having been successfully appointed in 2016.

My interest in issues relating to child public health has led to involvement in a number of research areas including: childhood obesity, health informatics and the use of routinely collected data; vaccine trials and community surveillance; and engaging the public in epidemiological research.

My recent research work involves the development, implementation and evaluation of a clinical decision support system within an electronic health record and forms the basis of my MD.  This project was in conjuction with NHS Education for Scotland and was funded by the Digital Health Institute.

My current work is concentrating on developing patient-directed decision support for diabetes.  I am also local Principal Investigator for the autoimmune diabetes Accelorator Prevention Trial (adAPT) - a JDRF-funded RCT aimed at preventing type 1 diabetes.

I am an active member of the Child Health undergraduate teaching committee and have regular undergraduate and postgraduate teaching commitments throughout the academic year.  I have lead responsibility for the child health component of the Systems in Practice phase of the undergraduate curriculum.
