100C - Hauntology, Turmoil, Change

Activity: Participating in or organising an event typesParticipation in conference

Description

Recent years have seen repeated irruptions of abrupt, large-scale change at the economic, political, meteorological, and biological level: hyperbolic growth, the viral spreading of noxious agents – of which Covid is the most extreme but by no means the only example – the widespread exhaustion of natural and cultural reserves, human and environmental death. We are haunted by the persistence of colonial, extractive, and instrumentarian practices and power technologies, beyond obsolescence or death.

What does it mean to inhabit this haunted Earth? How does the Anthropocene haunt us? A cross-disciplinary cast of researchers respond. Perspective will range from philosophy, literature, anthropology, and all manner of art practice (painting, installation, performance, sculpture....)
