Description
TITLE: A trans-sectoral approach to delivery of health improvement within marginalised groups in society.Aims to present:
1. The concept of ‘inclusion oral health’ in the context of people experiencing multiple social exclusions
2. An action plan for education, research and practice.
3. An overview of the work at University of Dundee through the programmes of Smile4life, Mouth Matters, and REALITIES to respond to this call for action.
Learning Objectives
This lecture will:
1. Explore and explain how links between art, creativity, relationships and nature can create healthier and more resilient communities and environments for people suffering marginalisation or deprivation.
2. Describe how health can be enhanced through social prescribing, availing of community assets, introducing art and music to facilitate health literacy and modify leisure activities, through an integrated, interdisciplinary and transsectoral approach.
3. Explain the principle of behaviour change for amendable risk factors such as diet, hygiene, smoking, alcohol intake, stress and exercise and for which we now have proven methods.
