This image references the smells of the woods in autumn. The outer images show the surface of dry beech leaves collected from Heatherhall Woods, Fife. The central image shows the olfactory bulb of a mouse. This region of the brain interprets the smells we receive from receptors in our nose and feeds to higher areas of the brain to influence our association between odours and emotion.
