Activity: Other activity typesOther

Description

Representatives from Alzheimer's Scotland and patient parents visited the School of Life Sciences to discuss the Childhood Dementia Scotland Initiative.

Alongside a lab tour and presentations, the visit discussed potential ways that the Drug Discovery Unit (DDU) and Centre for Targeted Protein Degradation (CeTPD) could help with drug discovery for potential therapeutics to treat childhood dementia (there are about 145 childhood dementia types, many being monogenic loss-of-function mutations in key genes). Knowledge exchange from both parties in terms of the disease and novel approaches to drug discovery. DDU and CeTPD now looking into funding and approaches to start tackling this.
