Art Night Dundee | Heather Phillipson: Dream Land

Dream Land was a multi-screen video installation by Turner Prize nominated artist Heather Phillipson which was part of the city-wide contemporary art festival Art Night Dundee, co-commissioned with Art Night and the Art Fund as part of the UK wide Wild Escape programme. Phillipson’s audio-visual performance Mourning Ritual was a new work co-commissioned by Cooper Gallery DJCAD. Exhibited at Cooper Gallery, the film was gifted to The McManus Museum’s permanent collection. The project was a major public engagement success for DJCAD/UoD, it strengthened DJCAD/UoD’s connection with communities locally and nationally and raised UoD’s reputation and profile. 

Co-commissioned by Art Night and the Art Fund as part of their Wild Escape programme, Dream Land was exhibited at Cooper Gallery with the support of the DJCAD Centenary Trust.

 

CG had an audience of1500 during the two-week exhibition run.  The live performance had an audience of 255. In addition to the live events on Art Night, Philipson’s exhibition was open from 12noon to 12midnight seeing at total of 1198 visitors on Saturday 24 June.

The project received significant national press coverage including 10 reviews and features focused on the commission at Cooper Gallery.

In 2023, internationally renowned contemporary art festival Art Night delivered its first full iteration in a city outside London – in Dundee. On the 24 June 2023, Art Night presented ten major new commissions in civic spaces across the city by internationally significant and emerging artists. The free festival was brought to Dundee in partnership with Dundee Contemporary Arts (DCA) and in collaboration with venue partners including at Cooper Gallery, DJCAD; V&A Dundee; Creative Dundee; NEoN Digital Arts; GENERATORprojects; Dundee City Council and Hospitalfield, Arbroath.
