    Description

    Heather Phillipson performance Mourning Ritual was a new live audio-visual performance piece presented as part of Art Night Dundee festival, the first city wide contemporary art festival in Dundee, co-curated by Hao. 

    The work was composed by Phillipson to communicate with the spirits of departed animals and was a co-commission with Cooper Gallery, Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design. The performance was performed twice to  over 500 audiences. 

    The project was a major public engagement success for DJCAD/UoD, it strengthened DJCAD/UoD’s connection with communities locally and nationally and raised UoD’s reputation and profile. 

     

    CG had an audience of1500 during the two-week exhibition run.  The live performance had an audience of 255. In addition to the live events on Art Night, Philipson’s exhibition was open from 12noon to 12midnight seeing at total of 1198 visitors on Saturday 24 June.

    The project received significant national press coverage including 10 reviews and features focused on the commission at Cooper Gallery.
