Attainment Gap and Symbolic Violence

Activity: Talk or presentation typesInvited talk

    Description

Talk offered to about 50 professionals from across the Scotland working in the fields of education and social care. I explored the links between attainment gap and poverty in the context of equity and inclusion, with focus on the relation between educational attainment (and the 'statistical correlation') and symbolic violence. Much of the talk was based on the theoretical framework provided by French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu and added with elements of my own experience with 'inequalities' and 'inequities'.
