    Description

What is Colour? Bauhaus Summer School, Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.
A return to Bauhaus (following Corona-paused years), guest lecturer Alex Roberts delivered an international online course about colour. The course aimed to revitalise individual perception and use of hue reliant upon colour’s properties, form, and application.

Alex’s hands-on studio research and experience to continually stretch colour’s properties as part of her painting enquiry, underpinned the course.
Week 1’s methods: playful experiments to understand, employ, and articulate colour combined with addressing theoretical bases, the cannon of colour theory with three main contemporary objectives. Discovering:
•colours’ properties - hue, tints, transparency, opacity, behaviour, affect.
•how colour is employed - form’s relevancy, composition, and arrangement.
•combined with how colour is applied - grounds, layering, stains, dyes, marked, projected, sampled versus projected forms of light.
Week 2, apply week 1’s findings to the participants colour practice interest i.e., Spatial Design, Painting. Intensifying the understanding of hues; expanding potential applications to actioning colour anew. Developing and personalising colour swatch book/ palette portfolios.
The interdisciplinary Bauhaus approach guided a mixture of subjects and online localities (e.g., virtual connections from Amsterdam, Belfast, Berlin, Faro district, Istanbul, London, and Weimar) by socially constructive methods to probe and test together. Learning by doing - widening specialities scope. The series of colour workshops intended to review Alex’s pedagogical deliveries and quality assurance standards within international contexts via an online delivery.

Consequential results, international, educational partnerships continue, developing further student and staff creative communities and networks. Cultural outlooks and application to colour re-energised.
