Because It's Not There: Curating The Gaps in Artists' Archives.

    Activity: Talk or presentation typesKeynote

    Description

Invited talk as part of The Future of The Richard Demarco Archive consultancy and workshop series delivered between August 2022 and June 2023 by ART360 Foundation for Creative Scotland and National Galleries of Scotland. The workshop series aimed to find ways to distribute and curate Richard Demarco's prolific and internationally significant archive of post-1960s avant-garde art. Demarco is one of Scotland's prominent promoters of international artists in Scotland, whose archive - despite its acquisition by National Galleries of Scotland in 1995 - is still considered 'vulnerable'. The workshops brought together artists, curators, museum professionals; funders to share thoughts and ideas that help creating a plan.

Bodor was invited to give a talk on her ongoing research around artists' archives, particularly insights from the recent 'Curating Living Archives' project alongside her work with artist Anya Lewin and Gordian Projects, and her PhD project working with the archives of Ivor Davies. Bodor presented alongside Nell Donkers from De Appel, Amsterdam, in particularly discussing the potential of curating as a mode of 'proliferative' conservation of artists' archives.

The presentation contributed to a report by ART360 Foundation to support their work on artists' legacy planning. The invitation was a recognition of Bodor's expertise in the field of curating archives and evidenced the wider impact of her work in the field.
