Cafe Science Dundee - Do you know what I mean?

Activity: Other activity typesPublic engagement and outreach - public lecture/debate/seminar

Description

Good communication can be easy to spot but hard to achieve, and poor communication is often cited as the reason for problems. From project failures and medical errors to divorce, the consequences of poor communication are all too immediate. But what do we mean by effective communication and how can we learn to do this?

Janet McLean, from Abertay University, will discuss research looking at communication between pairs of speakers and listeners and she will
outline how each partner can contribute to better
communication.

Janet will also describe the development of communication skills in children showing that they become sensitive to the need to communicate effectively during childhood, with adults having a vital role to play in this. She will also consider whether the findings from inter-personal research can be applied to communication at a more society-wide level.

Join us at Avery & Co, 34 South Tay Street, Dundee on Monday 18th April 2016, at 7pm. This is a free event and everyone is welcome. There is no need to book in advance but arrive early to avoid disappointment.
