Description
Dr S M A Moin is a Reader (Associate Professor) in Storytelling andBrand Communications at Queen Mary University of London, ranked
9th globally and among the top 0.5% in storytelling research by
ScholarGPS, California, USA. A published author and an
interdisciplinary researcher, his work explores the intersections of
storytelling, creativity, innovation, leadership, and strategy.
Moin’s career is a story of transformation in three remarkable chapters.
The first chapter was forged in the Bangladesh Navy, where he served
15 years with distinction, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Commander.
His service included international training with the US Navy, US Coast
Guard, and the US Defense Institute of International Legal Studies,
experiences that grounded him in discipline, resilience, and a global
outlook.
The second chapter took him to the corporate world of the UK, where
for over a decade he navigated industries as diverse as media,
publishing, financial services, and consulting. He advised leading
companies, contributed to the world’s largest newspaper, and played a
role in a $4 billion international subsea project – building bridges
between strategic vision and practical execution.
The third chapter brought him to academia, where he now combines
scholarship with practice. Before joining Queen Mary, he held senior
leadership roles at Coventry University London, including Associate
Head of Research and Scholarship, University Ethics Lead, and Vice-
Chair of the Research, Scholarship and Ethics Panel. He also served
as an LEA Governor of the London Borough of Hounslow, UK –
furthering his commitment to education and public service. He has co-
founded Storytelling Unboxed at Queen Mary University of London, a
leadership initiative dedicated to nurturing purposeful, values-
driven leaders through the power of stories.”
Today, he is a Principal Fellow of AdvanceHE (UK Higher Education
Academy), a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute, and a
reviewer for leading journals and publishers. Dr Moin holds an MBA
from the University of Strathclyde and a PhD in Management from
the University of Nottingham, enriched by executive education from
Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard, and MIT.
Passionate about storytelling and purposeful leadership, he has
delivered over 100 keynotes worldwide, inspiring audiences with his
unique ability to bridge the worlds of military discipline, corporate
practice, and academic scholarship. He has found his purpose in
developing his students with character, values, and vision for
contemporary challenges, and in inspiring leaders seeking meaning
and transformation in an Age of Imagination.
