Artist Talk and Drawing Workshop, Professor Anita Taylor.Professor Anita Taylor, practicing artist, exhibition curator, published writer, and Dean of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, University of Dundee. The founding Director of the foremost annual drawing exhibition in the UK, The Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize [since 1994], and Drawing Projects UK, a public-facing initiative dedicated to drawing [since 2009]. She has extensive teaching, research, peer and expert review in the UK and internationally, and her academic leadership roles space the UK to Sydney, Australia.
Alex Roberts invited artists, organised and facilitated of a series of public talks that included a two-hour, student workshops focusing on drawing. This drawing series accompanied and celebrated, The Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize 2019, hosted at The Leicester Gallery, De Montfort University.
Aim, to widen drawing research and core knowledge share. Nurturing drawing communities and networks, hosting public engagement, drawing dialogue and workshop activities within educational contexts.
Three of the six events proceeded, listed and linked:
- Radical care and wild patience: exploiting the mutable status of drawing as a part of a Fine Art practice by artist, Andrea Stokes.
- A Line was Drawn by award-winning artist, Mairead McClean.
- Drawing: A Rehearsal by Professor Anita Taylor. Practicing artist, exhibition curator, published writer, and Dean of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, University of Dundee.
The latter events (Making the Connection - Julian Wild; A day celebrating figurative drawing - TBWDP19 exhibiting artists, Fiona G. Roberts, Alberto Torres Hernandez, Steven Ward and TBWDP2019 Public Talk: prizewinners, Jeanette Barnes & Penny McCarthy in conversation with Alex Roberts) were interrupted by the start of the global pandemic.
Impact,- student advance in applications for the TBWDP prize itself, alongside other external contemporary art competitions and curated opportunities, - audience attendance and expansion of interest in the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize 2019, hosted at The Leicester Gallery, De Montfort University, 12 February – 18 April + 29 August – 26 September 2020.- Alex Roberts’s research environment/ core knowledge share.
