Description
People with Parkinson’s and their loved ones were invited to the School of Life Sciences at the University of Dundee to join an in person event featuring a range of research talks and lab tours. Participants had the chance to see science in action, learn more about the Parkinson's research happening in Dundee, and meet the scientists carrying it out.Speakers included:
- Professor Dario Alessi (Director of the MRC PPU) and Dr Esther Sammler (Clinical Programme Leader, Consultant neurologist) - 'The LITE study'
- Professor Peter Vangheluwe (visiting from the Leuven Brain Institute, Belgium) - 'Targeting polyamines and polyamine transport in Parkinson’s and beyond'
- Dr Tom Gilbertson - 'Focused ultrasound'
- Professor Ian Ganley – 'Mitochondria'
- Jacqueline Kerr (Scottish NDN Network Manager) - 'Presentation on Trial Participation'
- Gillian Lacey-Solymar, from the Movers and Shakers podcast
Lunch and refreshments were provided throughout the day.

10:30 to 12:30 – presentations on Parkinson’s research in Dundee
12:30 to 13:45 – lunch
13:45 to 15:00 – lab tours in small groups
15:00 to 15:30 – closing summary, refreshments and departure
