George Pirie and the Dundee X-Ray Pioneers

Activity: Other activity typesPublic engagement and outreach - public lecture/debate/seminar

    Description

This is the latest in a series of films in which museum curator Matthew Jarron tells the stories behind some of our most interesting objects and artworks. In this video we look at some of the early experiments into X-Rays that were carried out in Dundee, and in particular the heroic self-sacrifice of Dr George Pirie. It features images from the Tayside Medical History Museum and other parts of the University Museum Collections as well as the University of Dundee Archives and private collections.
UPDATE! I've been told by a radiologist that when I mention radioactivity I should have referred to (ionising) radiation - sorry!
