Background: The current world is in disarray: an impending (or rather already occurring) ecological crisis of unprecedented proportions stands in the current situation alongside extreme forms of socio-economic and political inequality; new forms of technological domination and control coincide with a resurgence of populisms and authoritarianisms; Signifiers that were once associated with emancipatory social movements and theories (e.g. freedom! or self-determination!) are now often put to reactionary use. What should be done in the current situation? Can “theory” provide guidance? And if so, how?
