Ingenious: Engineering the Curriculum. Public Engagement & Outreach Training Day

Activity: Other activity typesSchools engagement

Description

Partnering with AFBE-Scotland (The Association for Black and Minority Ethnic Engineers), SSEN co-developed and hosted a training day, as part of a Royal Academy of Engineering funded outreach project.

The project ‘Engineering the Curriculum’ brought engineers, teachers, university staff and engineering students together to design STEM activities for local schools and create a STEM library.

Available SSEN facilities were shared, as well as experiences and success stories around STEM engagement, shared by our partner projects. Leon Chernin, Ian Stuart (Avantis Education) and Chudi Okenwa (AFBE).

The teachers and engineers had training sessions delivered by Kerri Haynes (Programme Manager –STEM Ambassadors in Scotland), Hazel Gardner (STEM Education Officer, Tayside Team) and Richard Holme (Education Lecturer). Dr Ollie Folayan, SSEN visiting professor, spoke to all participants about the importance of relatable role models. Teams went on to start designing STEM related activities, which will be shared as the STEM library develops over the year.
