Description

Scotland has a rich history of seeing its poets into print, and of printing diverse poets. Printing poetry can be a strange, alchemical, idiosyncratic and collaborative practice.

This display represents a small selection of the poetry chapbooks, pamphlets and artists’ books published in Scotland over the last thirty years or so and held in the National Library. The presses whose work is presented here are printer- poet- and artist-led. All, mirroring the poetry they print, are steadfastly ‘independent’. Here is poetry made into object form, to be slipped into an envelope, displayed on a mantelpiece, or placed on a bookshelf, and always to be handled, read, and returned to.
