My Neighbour, the subject of civilisation

Activity: Talk or presentation typesInvited talk

Description

A lecture given to the post-graduate seminar at the Architectural Association.

'Ethics is about how we live well together. The neighbour is the central figure in western ethical thought. The neighbour goes back to Leviticus and 'love thy neighbour as thyself'. Ethics combined social and territorial relations from the outset: love thy neighbour and leave the boundaries of your field unharvested for gleaning by the road-weary indigent; love thy neighbour and pay your employees on time.
