New Beginnings – A collaborative community project to raise awareness of neurodiversity in young people

Community engagement project which involved a collaboration between staff at the University of Dundee, staff from Dundee CLD Youth Work Team, staff at Morgan Academy, and the Art Director, Comics Youth SCIO.

Young people from S1 and S2, with additional support needs, participated in five workshops and helped to co-design a comic.

The aims of the project were:

Support the young people to explore the theme of positive self-identity, to raise awareness and understanding of individuality.
Build confidence in the young people to be able to express themselves to others (social communication).
Collaboratively work together to support young people in producing a comic which expresses their ideas and creativity.

The project resulted in the creation and production of a comic entitled ‘New Beginnings’

There was a celebratory event in the school on 19th June 2024 when the young people were presented with certificates and given a copy of the ‘New Beginnings’ comic.
