Workshop summary

This workshop, aimed at academic staff and School administrative staff with direct responsibility in relation to postgraduate admissions, will provide a grounding in the current online systems used to manage applications for postgraduate study at the University of Dundee.

The workshop will also engage with the specific issues of equality and diversity that that arise in relation to the selection of successful applicants for postgraduate research degrees. In particular, it will provide unconscious bias training specially tailored to the demands of this task.

The workshop will be designed so that discussions of potential unconscious bias issues are practically linked to the actual stages of an application.

Aims and Objectives

• To provide an overview of University wide processes and standards in the selection of postgraduate researchers at Dundee
• To introduce relevant staff to new developments in the University’s admissions process for PGRs
• To introduce key considerations in relation to equality and diversity issues and unconscious bias in relation to PGR selection
• To provide an opportunity for reflection and discussion of the issues raised by this training
