Description

This 1-day media training workshop covered the following three areas:
1) Researchers and engagement: A panel of researchers with experience in
interacting with the media and policy worlds, discussed why researchers should
care about how evidence is used and reported on, and shared their advice and top
tips for helping researchers work with media and policy professionals.
2) What journalists and policy makers are looking for: A panel of journalists and
policy experts explained how they approach reporting science, how evidence is
used in policy, and what both worlds need from scientists to work effectively.
3) Having difficult conversations about science: What are the difficult conversations
about science and evidence ECRs have been involved with? What worries you?
Drawing on Sense about Science’s experiences, in this session, ECRs had the
opportunity to share their worries about public engagement, the tools they think
are missing, and what further help Sense about Science could provide.
