Description
This was the first of two free, one-day workshops on the sustainability of contemporary art practice and care, supported by Creative Scotland. The content was informed by the international conference, Sustaining Art: People Practice Planet, held at Discovery Point in Dundee in November 2022. The workshop targeted areas for achievable change and promote cooperation towards sustainability goals, aimed at practitioners (e.g. artists, technicians, curators, gallerists, gallery managers, conservators et al) working in Scotland.Held at the National Galleries of Scotland the workshop provided a platform for critiquing and enhancing sustainability practices in the sector, fostering networking, skill-sharing, and experience exchange, towards building on and expanding a Scotland-wide network of cultural heritage professionals. The workshop focussed on 'Risk Management of Cultural Heritage', highlighting strategic risk mitigation and disaster preparedness.
It was led by Lorraine Maule (National Galleries of Scotland), Stephanie De Roemer (University of Cambridge), Adam Lockhart (University of Dundee) with facilitator Mike Bonaventura (Independent Sustainability Consultant).
