Description
A smile can say a thousand words, it projects how we feel and how the world sees us. It has an impact on our social interaction, our relationships and even our employability, but what lies behind the smiles? What impact does it have on the lives of those who cannot smile?Dentistry has the purpose of improving oral health whilst also helping to reduce health inequalities, but many different social, cultural and political factors mean that people don’t always get the dental care they need. With modern society increasingly searching for the ‘perfect’ straight, white smile, we look at the effect this has on social exclusion and how it is experienced as well as examining the impact on oral and mental health outcomes.
