I was Invited to perform as part of the Gallery's 25th birthday celebrations.Using video, water, enamel basin, two water jugs and a glass, I performed as a figure engaged in exploring different meanings of water in the city.
"I want to invite you to come with me on two journeys; one to the North, one in the city.
Why do we see them as so separate when they are two sides of the same flow?
What kinds of being do we need to be in order to understand our city and our world?
The spiritual being
The sensual being.
The rational being
The romantic being
The superstitious being.
The political being – The feeling that it’s easier to imagine the end of the world than to imagine change and a better society. A better society was once imagined- and not only that- striven for.
The ghost of dirt is always at our shoulders. "
Purifying myself with a basin of water, drinking a glass of water on the third pour, (lead poisoning awareness) reflecting on my origins as 75-80% Glasgow water and now considerably more dessicated, the talk reached to John Ruskin, Thomas Annan, thousands of un-named labourers, and the Romantic sense of the trosachs to reconsider Loch Katrine and its feeder reservoirs as industrial estate.
