Research database: Chronology of British Hydrological Events

    Dataset

    Description

The Chronology of British Hydrological Events (CBHE) was created as an on-line information resource in order to enhance access to and use of historical facts pertaining to British hydrological phenomena. Its scope covers floods, droughts and all other notable historical phenomena of hydrological interest.
It is a central repository for the collation of factual information relating to any past hydrological events of possible future value, in a searchable form.
This active web resource records thousands of significant hydrological events in its database. It covers floods and droughts, surface and groundwaters, and is searchable by hydrometric area, date, keyword or more. It has been heavily used as a source of information by hydrologists seeking to identify records of historic floods which help to guide contemporary flood risk estimation. The chronology is not exhaustive, but seeks to point users towards useful sources of further information. New contributions are welcome from those with an interest in past hydrological events.
