Personal profile

Biography

My work sits across both Psychology and Human Geography, with a particular focus on policing and security. I am interested in aspects of decision and sense-making in relation to police work, considerations of vulnerability and human rights, and the role of technology in policing systems.

Currently, I am the UK Researcher on a Nordforsk funded project lead by Dr. Megan O'Neill here in Geography and Environmental Science. The 'Eyes Online' Project explores the accountability and legitimacy of online surveillance by state authorities. We are working in partnership with a number of other Scottish universities, as well as counterparts in Finland and Norway.

I am also completing an ESRC funded PhD, due to finish 2019, supervised by Professor Nick Fyfe and Dr Jon Mendel here at Dundee, and Dr Penny Woolnough at Abertay University. My project critically explores police perceptions of success in missing persons police work and involved 9 months of embedded ethnographic research practice with two UK Police Forces.

I am the convener of the Dundee Universities Postgraduate Policing Research group (DUPPR), a local network of early career researchers and representatives from Police Scotland with interests in policing research. We hold a number of roundtable and special interest events each year and link into the wider Scottish Institute of Policing Research (SIPR) Postgraduate Network.
