Personal profile

Biography

Amy graduated from Edinburgh Napier University in 2013 with a BSc (Hons) Psychology. She continued her studies by specialising in health psychology, graduating with merit in 2014 with an MSc in Health Psychology (accredited BPS Qualification in Health Psychology Stage 1 training) at the University of Stirling. This was followed by her enrolment onto the BPS Qualification in Health Psychology Stage 2 doctoral training whilst employed by NHS Tayside and NHS Education for Scotland from 2015-17, which led to BPS Chartership and HCPC registration. Now a registered Health Psychologist, Amy is pursuing a PhD in Psychology (2017-20) in a collaborative partnership between NHS Tayside and University of Dundee.

Research

Amy’s research interests encompass the application of health psychology to blood-borne viruses, substance misuse and sexual health. Amy is currently investigating the possible integration of health psychology into hepatitis C treatment, and the effectiveness of psychosocial interventions in reducing injecting risk behaviour and hepatitis C reinfection in people who inject drugs.
Her past research focused on attitudes towards contraception and barriers to safe sexual behaviour in undergraduate male students (honours dissertation), using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis, and attitudes towards, and acceptance of, male hormonal contraception in young people in stable and casual heterosexual relationships (MSc dissertation), using Thematic Analysis.
