Biography

Andrew Brennan is Senior Lecturer in the Geotechnics Research Group at the University of Dundee, and a Chartered Engineer with the Institution of Civil Engineers. His research may be generally characterised as dynamic soil behaviour in a range of scenarios, investigated predominantly through physical modelling. His recent research focus has been increasingly looking at mooring solutions for offshore renewable energies, through industry-facing work on drag embedment andchors and vibration installed anchors, using physical (1g and centrifuge) modelling techniques, building on past experience in pipeline and offshore foundation behaviour. Onshore, he developed the first centrifuge mounted rail-simulator as part of the LOCORPS project, and has applied this to rail embankment problems.

His original research area dating from his PhD days at Cambridge has been liquefaction, and he continues to research aspects of soil liquefaction, particularly finding sustainable mitigation measures for low-to-middle income countries. He also has experience in earthquake reconnaissance, having been a member of the UK-Indonesia joint mission to the site of the 2018 Sulawesi earthquake. He is a member of the EPSRC College.
