Biography

Brian Christopher Jones joined Dundee Law School in June of 2017. Currently he is the Erasmus/international study abroad co-ordinator for Law, an undergraduate admissions officer, and co-convenor of the Dundee Law School Research Seminar Series. Brian teaches on the full range of public law modules, and is course leader on Public Law I and Public Law III. Prior to joining Dundee Brian was a Lecturer in Public Law at Liverpool Hope University (2015-2017), and before that he was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Institutum Iurisprudentiae, Academia Sinica (IIAS), Taiwan's highest academic research institution (2012-2015). Before undertaking his doctorate at the University of Stirling, Brian worked at the US Dept. of Justice (National Institute of Justice) and also the Justice Policy Institute (Wash, D.C.). 

Brian is a member of the Society of Legal Scholars (SLS) and is currently the co-convenor of the Public Law Subject Section. He is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and a member of the International Society of Public Law (ICON-S). In addition to publishing in British, American and Asian law journals (including Public Law, Legal StudiesParliamentary Affairs, Wisconsin Law ReviewHong Kong Law Journal, etc.) Brian's work has been featured in the New York Times, the Wall St. Journal, and The Economist, amongst other places. 

Brian holds a PhD in Law from the University of Stirling; an MA in Law & Society from George Mason University, and a BA in Psychology from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Research

Brian's research interests are in comparative public law, constitutional theory, socio-legal studies, civil disobedience, and law and culture. Currently he is analysing the effects of political and legal constitutionalism, the implications of constitutional idolatry and judicial supremacy, and court criticism and the rule of law. He is the editor of Law and Politics of the Taiwan Sunflower and Hong Kong Umbrella Movements and author of the forthcoming book: Warnings on Constitutional Idolatry (Edward Elgar).
