Caitlyn Norman's research project focuses on new psychoactive substances (NPS) in prisons. The project includes the development of a qualitative and quantitative method for the analysis of seized samples from prisons, examination of the evolution of the NPS market, assessment of Rapiscan in-field ion mobility spectrometers for the rapid detection of NPS, and exploration of the potential for secondary exposure of NPS via transdermal absorption and passive smoking. Her project aims to help reduce the use of NPS in prisons and improve the safety and security of prisoners and prison staff.
