Personal profile
Biography
My name is Camila Biazus Dalcin, and I am a Lecturer (Teaching & Research) and a member of the Mother, Infant and Child Health Research Group (MIRU) at the School of Health Sciences at the University of Dundee. I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). Currently, I am also a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International and the Faculty of Public Health.
My background is in general nursing. I obtained my Bachelor of Nursing degree from UFN, Brazil, and Master of Nursing from the Federal University of Rio Grande (FURG, Brazil). I hold a PhD in Nursing from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC, Brazil) which I obtained in 2020, as well as a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Dundee in 2022. I finished the Academic Practice in Higher Education (PGCAPHE) PG Cert and Aurora Advance HE's leadership training in 2024.
Before I joined Dundee, I worked as a Lecturer in Nursing, Physiotherapy and Odontology in Brazil. My clinical practice focused on public health, community nursing, emergency and trauma, and critical care. Additionally, I worked as a researcher on various projects in both Brazil and Scotland. In 2022, I received the Sigma European Early Career Researcher award.
Research
My research focuses on addressing health inequalities and public health issues to enhance the well-being and health outcomes of minority ethnic and marginalised communities worldwide. I have experience working with marginalised families, adolescents, young people/parents, people in prison, people who use drugs, sex workers, and people experiencing homelessness, among others.
I am passionate about enhancing healthcare access, promoting better health outcomes, and advancing topics related to sexual and reproductive health as well as perinatal mental health. I have been working with Professor Alison McFadden since 2022, conducting research in collaboration with the Gypsy/Traveller community in Scotland, and I am interested in expanding this work further.
My area of expertise is qualitative research methods, including ethnography and using creative methods to develop meaningful research. I am also expanding my knowledge of evidence synthesis and mixed methods approaches. I strongly believe in engaging with the community to enhance healthcare experiences and practices.
I collaborate with national and international partners, including colleagues from Brazil, Portugal, Australia, and the USA on projects and publications.
I am currently supervising Professional Doctorate and PhD students and am also accepting new self-funded PhD students.
Teaching
I have experience in teaching and supervision. I received a nomination for the Academic Staff Award in 2023. I currently teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules, including:
· Fundamentals of Adult Health and Care
· Nursing Skills and Practice 1
· Nursing Skills and Practice 2
