Spaces of African Caribbean Diaspora: Identity, otherness and belonging in contemporary art of Black women artists working in Britain.

Cat Dunn is a doctoral candidate at DJCAD. She has lived across the world working in business development and logistics, speaking a number of languages. Her first degree was undertaken in New York, and she holds a degree from Glasgow School of Art (GSA) and a Masters with Distinction. Cat intends to publish her PhD thesis with a major publisher after graduation, who have already shown a keen interest in her important subject matter. Currently Cat is also an Associate Lecturer, Chair of Race Champions, and a freelance curator specialising in social art. She has been a trustee for Transmission Gallery and mentor with Thistles & Dandelions. Cat started the GSA PoC Collective to challenge/change the curriculum and bring about a more inclusive environment. In her spare time Cat enjoys skydiving and (qualified) jewellery making.

Her practice is as a freelance curator specialising in social justice, researcher and producer, activist and artist. Cat's work seeks to engage and create dialogue about social Identity as seen through the lived experiences of  marginalized women, and engages additional divisive subjects such as colonialism, slavery, racism and feminism, often investigating those aspects that are all too frequently hidden or misrepresented. The overall basis of her practice is grounded on creating or adding to Black and Marginalized Space and giving a voice to those communities. Her last project Harbinger, investigated the impact of the climate crisis on marginalised communities living in urban areas.

Harbinger is a multi-layered collaborative research project and hybrid exhibition marrying science and art and featuring women of colour artists, activists, scientists, and medical consultants. The project investigates the impact of the climate crisis on marginalised communities living in urban settings.
