Biography
As Manager for the Wellcome Centre for Anti-Infectives Research Catharine oversees the operations, finance and communication for the Centre and the Drug Discovery Unit. She works closely with the Director and senior management team to set the strategy for the Centre across its research, training and public engagement themes.
Catharine joined the Wellcome Centre for Anti-Infectives Research from her position as Manager of The Farr Institute for Health Informatics Research. The Farr Institute was a UK-wide research collaboration involving 21 academic institutions and health partners in England, Scotland and Wales. Publically funded by a consortium of ten organisations led by the Medical Research Council, the Institute was committed to delivering high-quality, cutting-edge research using ‘big data’ to advance the health and care of patients and the public. Catharine directed the operational strategy with responsibility for the Network budget and for facilitating and implementing interactions across The Farr Institute and between The Farr Institute and the wider UK health informatics research community. Catharine worked closely with each of the four Farr Institute Centres and the leads of the eight UK Network working groups to ensure effective coordination of activities to meet strategic objectives.
From 2010-2014 Catharine was University of Dundee programme manager for the Kuwait-Scotland eHealth Innovation Network (KSeHIN). KSeHIN is an international collaboration involving the University of Dundee, NHS Tayside and Aridhia Informatics from Scotland and the Dasman Diabetes Institute and Ministry of Health in Kuwait. The aim of KSeHIN is to enhance care and management of people with diabetes through the application of relevant and appropriate evidence based processes, skills and knowledge. The collaboration has created a University of Dundee accredited Masters programme, built a National Clinical Skills and Simulation centre in Kuwait and introduced a shared electronic patient record linking primary and secondary healthcare for the first time in Kuwait.
Catharine was responsible for ensuring the integration of projects across the four work-streams of Education, Informatics, Research and Clinical Services. Catharine also acted as the project manager for the Education team responsible for coordinating and implementing the delivery of the Education programme to the students in Kuwait.
From 2006-2010 Catharine worked for Wyeth/Pfizer where she managed biomarker research as part of the Translational Medicine team. Catharine implemented biomarker strategies with both clinical and pre-clinical drug discovery teams. Catharine was a senior member of the Translational Medicine Research Collaboration (TMRC) between Wyeth and the Scottish Universities and NHS, managing the portfolio of Cardiovascular and Diabetes research projects and acting as project manager for a research collaboration to identify novel biomarkers predictive of drug toxicity.
Catharine started her research career at the University of Cambridge where she specialised in using genetically modified mice to further understand the molecular and cellular lesions underlying human diseases, including cardiac arrhythmias and Cystic Fibrosis.
