Personal profile

Biography

Donna teaches on a range of education programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.  She started her career teaching biology in secondary education after which, she undertook professional learning to collaborate and lead on Guidance and Pupil Support in various secondary schools in Scotland.  


Since 2013, Donna has been working at the University of Dundee in Teacher Education.  She has been invovled in teaching around the areas of social justice and health and wellbeing, leading modules in these areas at both undergraduate and postgraduate learnning.  


Currently, she is the PGDE Pastoral convenor supporting students on their academic journey.  
 

 

Research

Donna's research focus are around the areas of social justice and health and wellbeing.  Her research around health and wellbeing, has been around the area of secondary education and how this has been emdedded.  In addition, she is currently collaborating with collegues looking at health and wellbeing within Initial Teacher Education.  Her current PhD study, is considering the development of social justice educators through Initial Teacher Education, from a Scottish perspective.  This has allowed her to develop a deep interest in critical pedagogy and the role of care ethics in supporting the wellbeing of young people, through learning.  Her interest on the impact of inequalities of young people's health has led to her involvement in a national dental project for adolesecents.
