Personal profile


Gillian is lecturer in the Division of Education and Society. She teaches across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

Gillian’s professional interests include philosophy of education, physical literacy, research methodologies, physical education, Olympic education.

Gillian completed her initial teacher education at the Scottish School of Physical Education, Sport and Leisure, Moray House College Edinburgh, and further studies at the Universities of Stirling, the Peloponnese, and Dundee.

Previous posts were in further education, physical education teacher education and secondary schools. 


Current teaching responsibilities include:

  • Lead for MEd (Learning and Teaching) Dissertation module
  • Teaching Research Methods
  • Supervising Dissertation students
  • Leading physical education for primary education programmes.

Research interests

Current research interests feature (post)qualitative approaches, posthuman and sociomaterialist theory, phenomenology, ethics, and an ongoing interest in digital research methods.
