Biography
My name is Gillian and I am a lecturer in the Division of Education and Society. I teach across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, review ethics applications from across the Division. As Senior Fellow (SFHEA), I mentor and review staff undertaking fellowship awards via the Professional Learning Framework.
My professional interests include philosophy of education, physical literacy, research methodologies, physical education, Olympic education.
After completing initial teacher education at the Scottish School of Physical Education, Sport and Leisure, Moray House College Edinburgh, I completed an MPhil (Research) with focus on assessment. Further studies have been at the Universities of Stirling, the Peloponnese, and Dundee.
Previous posts were in further education (FE), physical education teacher education (HE) and secondary schools.
Teaching
Current teaching responsibilities include:
- Lead for MEd (Learning and Teaching) Dissertation module
- Supervising Dissertation students
- Ethics reviewer
- Leading physical education for primary education programmes
- Teaching and assessing across MAEd (undergraduate) teacher education modules
- Working with student groups on PGDE and MAEd professional placements.
Research interests
Current research interests are in education, physcial literacy, physical education, and feature (post)qualitative approaches, posthuman and sociomaterialist theory, phenomenology, ethics, with an ongoing interest in digital research methods.
