Biography
Giorgia is a fully registered pharmacist, pharmaceutical chemist, and forensic toxicologist, having worked in different professional environments such as a government laboratory, industry, academia, and healthcare. She has collaborated with multidisciplinary, national and international groups to deliver different local and European projects around the implementation of remote clinical trials, parents and babies’ health and best practice for handling and ensuring stability of biological medications. Her work is conducted with the involvement of the community, patients and caregivers, healthcare professionals, and regulators. Current research is focused on substance use which includes prescribed and non-prescribed medicines, recreational drugs, and other drugs of misuse. This work includes understanding if the quality of substances and the way they are taken can affect the purpose for which they are intended to be used. Design and disseminate effective solutions that can be tested and implemented to ensure people’s safety. Current projects involve the use of paracetamol in people associated with possible but preventable paracetamol overdosing; the presence of fake medications on the market, the spread and impact of their use on the population, and the post-Brexit expected solutions to fill in the gaps left if UK won’t align with the European Commission regulations.
