Hailey's main research is in anthropomorphism, animal comics, and trauma. However, her other research interests include female agency, film noir and comics, music in comics, comics and the archive, and transmedia.
Hailey taught two film noir modules in 2019 and will be teaching two more in 2020. She is the course leader on the Access Summer School Film Genre's module in 2019. She also lectured a Master's level course on Art Spiegelman's Maus and gave the undergraduate lecture on comics and film noir. She also teaches autobiographical comics with Lifelong Learning Dundee. She has guest lectured at Creighton University and is a private tutor in English and Spanish.
