Biography

Helen teaches on a range of programmes in Education. She began her career as a primary school teacher, teaching in England, Australia and Scotland. Working in Higher Education Helen has worked on Masters, Postgraduate and Undergraduate programmes in Education at Queen Margaret University (QMU) in Edinburgh and the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) in Inverness. She has taken an active role in curricular design for online, blended and face-to-face programmes in Education and led programme teams on the PGDE at QMU and the Master of Education Critical Enquiry at UHI.  

Research

Helen’s research interests focus on the potential of digital practice and pedagogy. Her research has examined the experiences of lecturers as they teach online and explored the potential of digital tools for professional learning in rural areas. She is interested in socio-cultural and critical pedagogies, and the impact of digital tools and spaces on the enactment of these pedagogic approaches, alongside rural education and the digital divides - geographic and socio-economic - which influence educational digital practices in relation to social justice and equity.
