Biography
Jennifer is a Lecturer in Education in the School of Education and Social Work. She leads the teaching on the PGDE English course along with the teaching on Literacy across the Curriculum for the PGDE Programme. She teaches on the MA(Hons) programme on Languages and Literacy with particular focus on reading and writing instruction. She studied English Literature and Language at Glasgow University, qualified in teaching at Jordanhill in Glasgow and began her career as a Secondary English teacher in Dundee. Later, she gained an ATQ and Professional Recognition in P.E. and completed an accelerated BSc(Hons) Sport, Health and Exercise degree. She was awarded a fees scholarship for her PhD in Psychology of Sport at Stirling University: mixed methods research analysing group dynamics and performance in elite motor sport teams. She taught on various undergraduate modules in sport, exercise and health at Stirling University as well on the MSc Sport Psychology Programme. She was an Associate Tutor for Glasgow University on the MSc Education Programme before joining Dundee University full time in 2022. Throughout her career, Jennifer has led on health and wellbeing across the curriculum. She established her own Research Consultancy conducting Educational Impact Evaluations in schools throughout Scotland and working with elite athletes and teams. Jennifer was awarded an EIS Action Research Grant when she led a research project examining adolescents' experiences of reading over the pandemic. In 2025 she was awarded the Gordon Kirk Travel Scholarship for her work with Texas Tech university in improving teacher literacy knowledge and skills in ITE. Her recent research includes a large scale survey of teacher literacy practices. She is also currently part of an international group of women researchers examining womens' experiences of harassment while running. Her research interests centre on improving health and wellbeing through literacy and sport.
