Personal profile

Katie Hart Potapoff is an interdisciplinary artist whose artistic practice and creative research considers philosophical questions about human entanglements with land and place. While residing in Scotland, Katie is researching her practice-based PhD, titled Inhabiting the Unknown, at DJCAD, University of Dundee. She is interested in documenting the experience of the unknown to better understand how it can reframe a deeper understanding of our interconnectedness with the universe. Through the act of the journey, Katie explores themes of liminality found in the marginal area between places of specificity.

Katie was recently awarded an Explore and Create grant, from the Canada Council for the Arts, which funded her place-based research residency on the Isle of Iona. She completed her MFA with Merit in 2019 at DJCAD, University of Dundee, and her BFA in Visual Arts from the University of British Columbia Okanagan in 2008. Katie has also completed both a post-graduate diploma in Advancing Healthy & Socially Just Schools & Communities in 2018 and a post-graduate certificate in Design Thinking for Innovation in 2017 at the University of Calgary, Canada.
