Personal profile

I am the Project Manager of the Trusted Research Environment (TRE) at the Health Informatics Centre (HIC). Our TRE, also known as a Safe Haven, is responsible for curation and provisioning of patient data from NHS Tayside, NHS Fife and NHS Forth valley (e.g., electronic health records, medical images, lab, genomics data etc.). Our TRE enables users to conduct research in a flexible, scalable environment, providing rich insights from research and opportunities for innovation. I work to facilitate the excellent research conducted within our TRE and supported by HIC services.

Previously I was an Associate Researcher at the University of Glasgow’s Scottish Learning Disabilities Observatory (SLDO). My postdoctoral work focused on identifying and reducing the health inequalities faced by people with learning disabilities and/or autism. I completed my PhD at Glasgow Caledonian University researching the impact of healthy ageing on the visual brain (using functional Near Infrared Spectroscopy [fNIRS], psychophysics and psychology). My MSc in Research Methods in Psychological Sciences was at the University of Glasgow and my undergraduate BSc in Biological Sciences (Psychology) at the University of Edinburgh.

Research interests

I am passionate about the (re)use of NHS data to conduct research that can improve health care and patient outcomes. My main areas of research are health inequalities, medication burden (polypharmacy, anticholinergic burden) and mental health.
