Teaching

Lorren teaches English Property Law and Equity and Trusts on the English law LLB. She also has experience teaching English Contract Law, and the history of English law.

 

Biography

Lorren Eldridge is a lawyer and legal historian specialising in the intersection of legal history and legal theory. She uses that historical background to inform her teaching in English Property Law at Dundee. 

Lorren is a qualified solicitor in England and Wales (non-practising), and a member of the Selden Society for English Legal History, the American Society for Legal History, and the Society of Legal Scholars. 

Research

Lorren is particulalrly interested in medieval legal history and how looking at different historical legal systems can inform our modern ideas about law. Her doctoral thesis focuses on medieval legal custom, both in terms of substantive law and in thinking about how studying it might help us to understand legal custom better as a theoretical concept. 

She is also interested in developments in modern land law, and in particular how modern notions of property rights might also relate to historical uses of ideas like commons and communal property management.
