Personal profile
Teaching
University of Dundee
I have been with the University since 2007 and have developed a wide network of colleagues and friends across each of the schools within the University of Dundee. I enjoy all aspects of working in Higher Education and have specific interets in Teaching in Higher Education, specifically in online learning and teaching.
Programme Director BA Childhood Practice
I have been been Programme Director for the BA Childhood Practice and BA Childhood Studies since 2018. I am module leader for Personal Learning and Professional Development in Childhood Practice. I particularly enjoy working with students as they begin their studies and supporting students to participate through the widening access agenda. I believe in a degree led profession for Childhood Practice and work both locally and nationally with practitioners to improve the experiences of early years education and care for our youngest children.
TESTA - Transforming the Experience of Students through Assessment
I was the lead officer for TESTA for the University of Dundee for nine years. Transforming the Experince of Students through Assessment(TESTA) which focuses on developing best practice in assessment and feedback based upon a review and student feedback
Research
I am currently a Professional Doctorate student. My study is based around the the Self Perception of Childhood Practice students, on the first year of the BA Childhood Practice in Higher Education. The rationale for this study evolved as I am currently a lecturer in Early Years at the University of Dundee and have taught students entering onto the programme of study for the past 10 years. Previously, I was an Early Years Lecturer in Further Education following a career as an Early Years Practitioner. In this respect I see myself as an insider researcher considering factors within my own teaching and learning community.
Biography
I worked for many years across the Early Years sector before lecturing at Dundee and Angus College and then at the University of Dundee. I lived and worked in Italy and London before coming back to Dundee. I strongly believe in continuous professional education and in encouraging study throughout the Early Years workforce.
I am interested in all aspects of Teaching In Higher Education and have actively participated at all levels of Teaching in HE to develop my own teaching practice
