Personal profile
Biography
I am a Lecturer (Teaching & Research) within the Division of Education and Society, School of Humanities, Social Sciences and Law. Prior to joining the University of Dundee, I worked in the School of Education at the University of Queensland, Australia. I studied and taught applied linguistics and TESOL education across three universities and in different countries including Australia, Bangladesh, and the UK. I hold an MA from the University of Essex and a PhD from the University of Queensland, English for human capital development in a globalising world: policy, perceptions and practices. I am also a Fellow of Advance HE (FHEA). Currently, I am on the Editorial Boards of Current Issues in Language Planning (Routledge) and Humanities and Social Sciences Communications (Springer Nature)
Research
My research interest is interdisciplinary which spans language policy and planning, political economy in language education, and social theories, with a core focus on how applied linguistics and education relate to people and their wellbeing in developing societies. I have investigated how political economy intersects with public policy—especially those concerning language and education for human capital— and interrogated ideologies and discourses, governmentality, and misrecognition. A critical aim underpinning these foci is to challenge dominant ideologies and discourses that normalise social inequlities and injustice.
My works contribute to language, education, and society in relation to the interdisciplinary areas of language and political economy; language and education; language and development.
Impact in relation to UN Sustainable Development Goals

- Decent work and economic growth
- Reduced inequalities
