Biography

Margi is the Structural Engineering lecturer on the Graduate Apprentice in Civil Engineering degree at the University of Dundee. Previously, Margi was the course leader for the BSc(Hons) in Civil Engineering at Abertay University where she lectured in structural engineering. Prior to that, Margi worked for a global engineering consultancy where she dealt with the structural integrity of offshore platforms in the North Sea.  During this time she was awarded a Northern Research Partnership funding in collaboration with the University of Dundee to assess the behaviour of corrugated steel panels used in offshore modules under blast loads.

Margi has a strong background in structural dynamics and her research focuses on using advanced numerical methods for finding structural response during events such as earthquakes, blast and impact. Margi was a member of the EU funded Prohitec  (Protecting of Historical Buildings by Reversible Mixed Technologies) research during her Masters. Her PhD research dealt with assessing the behaviour of reinforced concrete columns under blast loads.

Margi enjoys lecturing; she is committed to bringing theory to life with practical examples and tasks. In 2019 Margi was nominated for the student led Teaching Awards in four categories: 'Excellent Feedback', 'Best Module', 'Enhancing Student Opportunities' and 'Excellent Teaching'. In 2017 she was nominated as ‘Outstanding Teacher’ in the student-led teaching awards after having previously received the Langlat Award for Excellence in teaching and the best tutor award several times at the Technion.

Margi completed her BSc(Hons) and Research MSc(cum laude) in structural engineering at the Technion before obtaining a PhD from Heriot Watt university. She has a postgraduate certificate in higher education (PGCert) and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA). Margi is a chartered member of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), an Executive Member of COMEC and committee member of Tayside and Fife ICE.
