Biography

September 2023- September 2027: I joined The University of Dundee in September '23 and began my PhD in January '24 (EASTBIO DTP; Primary supervisor Dr. Mattie Pawlowic; second supervisors Dr. Frank Katzer and Dr. David Smith at Moredun Research Institute, Penicuik). My project, 'One Health investigation of cryptosporidiosis host-pathogen interaction' aims to further characterise the host-pathogen interactions of the apicomplexan parasite Cryptosporidium parvum through studying in a neonatal model. I am particularly interested in exploring the mechanisms behind the critical symptom of cryptosporidiosis; diarrhoea.

July 2022-July 2023: I relocated to Dundee in May of 2022, where I then began working as a laboratory technician at APS Biocontrol Ltd., in the July. I worked as part of an Innovate SMART project with various industry partners as well as academic collaborators at The University of Cardiff, to investigate a bacteriophage solution for onion soft rot, which is caused by Burkholderia and Pectobacterium species.

2017-2021: I completed both my undergraduate degree and MBiolSci Integrated Master's at The University of Sheffield. Here, I undertook my undergraduate research project in the lab of Dr. Dan Bose, looking to express and purify human histones for functional assays. In my MBiolSci year, I began work in the lab of Dr. Emma Thomson. Before COVID shut us down, I carried out preliminary work on a project to engineer HEK-293 cell lines to investigate interactions of ribosomal protein RPL11.
